The chilly winter dry air is here and with it comes dry itchy skin...well, at least for me it does. How about you?? I have tried numerous lotions or bath oils but I have yet to find anything that stopped the itching UNTIL..... one day at lunch with my girlfriends last year we started talking about how bad our skin was and my friend Connie spoke up saying she had a homemade recipe for a lotion that her mother swore by! Well, I had to give it a try and let me tell you I am hooked! One of the best things about it is that you can customize it somewhat to your liking!
The ingredients are as follows:
2 -15 oz baby lotion
1 - 8 oz vaseline
2 - 8 oz vitamin e cream Note: I could only find this in 4 oz. jars so I got 4 of them
The Ingredient containers below:
4 of these "Fruit of the Earth" Vitamin E cream (I found this at Walmart in the Beauty section)
2 bottles of Baby Lotion (here is where you can customize it for YOU! Choose the smell you like best! If you haven't shopped for baby lotion lately you will be soo surprised at all the different choices! I chose the Shea Butter but also loved the Lavender as well)
You only need 8 oz. of vaseline so I bought the larger size and just kind of guess how much 8 oz. is since it's cheaper than buying the smaller size jars.
Also, If you have a lotion that you just love add some of that in as well. I add in some coconut vanilla shea butter from Bath&Body just because I love the smell)
Pour all the ingredients into mixing bowl and blend with mixer until all is blended well. I use the Vitamin E jars and fill them up with the new lotion and also bought containers to store the lotion in. This makes a great gift so you may want to get some cute containers (air tight of course) for giving.
Note: This makes alot of lotion so if you want to make sure you like it then modify accordingly. either cut the ingredients in half or even cut it into 1/4's.
The lotion is light and doesn't leave a film or feel like you just put lotion on at all. My husband hates that feeling and he loves this lotion! So ladies there you go! I have to include my dear friend Clif as well since he so kindly made me aware that men could benefit from this lotion as well! ;) I just love him and love that he keeps me on my toes!!

I so appreciate this recipe for itchy, dry skin Loren! I am definitely going to try this. My hands and feet always give me fits during the winter months. Thanks & hope you have a great Tuesday!
My Minnesota-winter skin is pleading with me to try this lotion! So...I'm gonna! Thanks for sharing this. I have yet to find something that really works without that greasy, slippy-slidy feel.
Peace and blessings to your day!
Jeanine
Cannot wait to try this! I'm going to put the link up on my blog today, if you don't mind...
Good to know and thanks for sharing. I don't suffer from very dry skin, but I am always using lotion. Our Kinzie however is different and I have yet to find a lotion that helps her. Poor thing. I might just have to give this a try.
Sounds like some lotion I have made before!! Will have to do that again. Thanks for the reminder!!
Love you
Blessings to you Loren, I also suffer from dry and extremely itching skin so will have to give this a try. I have found Aveno lotion generally helps but this sounds cheaper. Thank you so much for sharing this my friend!
Hugs, Noreen
My mom just introduced me to that vitamin e lotion over Thanksgiving!!! My daughter and I both loved it!! I'll have to make your mix!!
My skin - from the neck, down - is extremely dry and itchy...especially in the winter. I've been using Aveeno body wash and lotion (just like NanaNor). I may give this recipe a try...thanks!
Ok Loren, ladies it is! I'm sure this is very good stuff. But there is no way I am going to mix up a batch of it. You couldn't take a whip and make me or any man do it. You were right. Its really not for us. Oh, if you told me it would cure cancer or something I would but not just for the itch. I'll just keep using the stuff I buy at the drug store. It's great of you to share it with all your lady friends. I hope it helps all of them.
That is awesome! I will have to try that! Love that idea. Can I come by & try it? LOL!! My sis in law just told me about a facial astringent for my acne. I started using it this week. I will let you know how it goes!!
Love ya girl
I am going to make this Loren, sounds lovely.
.......:-) Hugs
How timely! With a few pretty bottles, this would make a great Christmas gift.
Thanks for sharing,
Kathleen
Making hair products at home is quite hard for me. So i choose the way buying them at the shop :)
You are a doll for sharing this and I cannot wait to try it. I find myself scratching like a monkey when the furnace kicks on and the air is so dry. This should help and I love the idea of giving bottles as gifts!!!
I'm back and I have to tell you I mixed up this concoction and we all love it! Sometimes even lotions will make me itch but this mixture feels so healing. I got the aloe scented baby lotion, too, and the fragrance is wonderful. Bought a few 3 oz. travel size bottles from Walmart for 97 cents each and filled half the containers in the house - you're right, it makes a lot! Hubby says we have enough lotion now to last for the next 16 years. I was using my electric mixer when they all walked into the kitchen ... unfortunately, they thought I was making a dessert. =D Anyway, after all that long-winded blathering, thanks so much for the recipe. It's wonderful!!!
I made a 1/2 batch yesterday, and went out to buy enouch to make another half batch today. I took care of six gifts. I found cocoa butter scent petroleum jelly in 4 oz jars in the baby section of Dollar Tree. I even had some left over fo me.
Jennie
I'm back again! =D This lotion recipe is so wonderful, I had to post about it and linked back to you for the ingredients. Thanks again, Loren! http://jayayceeblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/dry-skin-begone.html
